List of supplies for acrylic painting

Palette: paper or plastic (approximately 9”x12”).

Water container: any plastic bowl or small pail (like a margarine container).

Brushes: start off with a few synthetic or bristle ones. Sizes around# 2; # 6 and #10 flat brushes.

 

Pallet knife: flat one for scraping pallet.

 

Acrylic paint: I use Stevenson paints mostly, but any brand is fine in  the beginning. 2oz/60ml size or larger.

Colors:     Cadmium yellow medium*

                  Yellow ochre

                  Cadmium orange* optional color

                  Cadmium red light*

                  Crimson or Magenta

                  Ultramarine blue

                  Phthalo blue

                  Black or Paynes gray

                  Titanium white (you will use a lot of this color) 150ml is a good size

*(you can use a cadmium hue instead of cadmiums, if you want to save money)


Canvas, canvas board or gessoed hardboard: around 8”x10”to 16”x20” or any size you feel comfortable with.

  

Easel: table top or free standing

 

A clear large photograph or enlarged computer printout: If you can’t see it how can you paint it? (More than one picture is a good idea)

 

Paper towels: for removing excess water from brushes.

       

Varnish: matt or gloss can be added to the list later.
